Recorded while in the middle of catastrophic Oregon fires, this episode departs from advice to talk about coping with the present moment. Instead of lamenting “2020,” Karen and Kel talk about “leaning in” to the discomfort and trauma of our present reality: that all of this misery is the direct result of cause and effect–the logical outcomes of unfettered capitalism, greed, racism, and social abandonment. Coping with the present moment means both ceasing to fight or deny reality, as well as embracing joy and rest wherever it can be found. With inspiration from the teachings of Pema Chodron and the Nap Ministry, we remind listeners and ourselves that creative action (whether its a side hustle, coping with an impossible daily schedule, or agitating for political transformation) can only come from a rested mind.
